Under the pavements, the soil: Urban agriculture and resistance in metropolitan areas

Since the beginning of the 21st century, urban agriculture has seen a resurgence of interest as part of a growing awareness of the ravages of increasing urbanisation and conventional agriculture. Through a long-term investigation in Greater Paris, New York and Detroit, Flaminia Paddeu explores the wastelands of working-class neighbourhoods, shared gardens in city centres and vegetable gardens under threat, questioning our relationship with the land in metropolitan areas. This book captures the diversity of social ecology spaces and practices, and recounts the alliances and conflicts that arise around the return of agriculture to the ruins of urban capitalism.
