As humanity prepares to enter the third millennium, overpopulation has become so great that natural resources are no longer sufficient to cover its needs. Food and water are rationed, there is no more oil, no more animals. Thirty-five million New Yorkers, most of them without jobs or housing, are struggling to survive. Andy Rush has a job. Every day, he and the other cops in his squad go out to disperse the food riots that occur with every new distribution of synthetic food. So, what does it matter if a mobster with shady dealings gets shot? If he could catch the murderer, Andy would almost thank him for his services...
